Welcome! Today, we’re exploring Absurd Hero. This is a short and simplified introduction designed for newcomers — not an in-depth guide. My goal is to spark your curiosity and give you a clear starting point. If it piques your interest, I encourage you to dig deeper on your own. Let’s get started!
In Absurdism, the idea of the Absurd comes from a clash between two things: we humans really want life to make sense, but the universe doesn’t give us clear answers or purpose. That uncomfortable mismatch is what we call the Absurd.
An Absurd Hero is someone who fully understands this — they see that life has no built-in meaning, no final reward, and no higher power handing out instructions — but they keep living with energy and awareness anyway.
They don’t try to escape by pretending there’s a deeper truth or by giving up completely. Instead, they live in what’s called lucidity — a clear-eyed view of how things are — and choose to keep going, not because it will “fix” anything, but because living itself is worth it.
This kind of person doesn’t appeal to outside sources like religion or fate; they take full responsibility for how they live. That’s why they’re called a hero — not because they defeat the Absurd, but because they face it directly, without flinching, and still say yes to life.
The meaning isn’t out there somewhere; it’s something they create moment by moment, just by choosing to keep going.

Super helpful, thank you! Have always been interested in Absurdism since I read Camus' The Stranger, and this was a great introduction.
